There’s nothing better than a win. And this week, every day we’ll take a look back at each of the GIANTS’ wins in the 2014 season. Kicking off with our historic win over our cross-town rivals and including our first win away from home, our biggest-ever win, our first win at the MCG and the final-round thriller at Etihad Stadium, we’ll have a full wrap of each win along with the match highlights and team song.

ROUND 21

Melbourne 3.16 (34) def. by GWS GIANTS 15.8 (98)

With wins now secured at Spotless Stadium and at the GABBA, the GIANTS turned their attention to winning at the home of football, the MCG.

The Round 21 match against Melbourne at the MCG started terribly for the visitors with co-captains Phil Davis and Callan Ward succumbing to injury in the first half, and key forward Jon Patton joining them on the sidelines with a serious knee injury.

The first half injuries came on top of a number of key players not taking their place due to injury including Jeremy Cameron, Tom Scully, Lachie Whitfield, Stephen Coniglio, Tim Mohr and Josh Hunt.

With only three players over the age of 22 on the field, and only one fit player on the bench, the GIANTS young stars stepped up to record a famous victory at the MCG.

The GIANTS were victorious at the MCG for the first time, winning by their greatest ever margin (64-points) and restricting the Demons to just three goals.

For the first time, the GIANTS belted out the team song in the famous MCG change rooms and singing with gusto, “We will never surrender.”

Rhys Palmer kicked four goals for the GIANTS, while on-ballers Devon Smith (30 disposals, two goals), Toby Greene (29 disposals), Dylan Shiel (25 disposals, one goal) and Adam Treloar (26 disposals) were all influential.
