Young forward Adam Tomlinson says the club's goal in 2014 is pretty simple. It wants to win.
“We do want to win," he said. "It might not mean much to other clubs but it does mean a lot to us because we’ve been working so hard for so long.
“I think the individual goals that everyone’s had in the last few years have gone out the window and now we can really focus on the team goals we want. Just winning more games and playing better as a team.”
The GIANTS returned to the track at Tom Wills Oval in Sydney Olympic Park after the players were given the Australia Day weekend off.
Tomlinson spent the weekend catching up with his family in what will be one of the last breaks the players enjoy before the footy season starts in just a few weeks.
“It was good to have a few days off, but all the boys are keen to start these next few weeks and get into the intra-club match,” he said.
Tomlinson is excited about the prospect of playing in a forward line comprising 2013 Kevin Sheedy Medallist Jeremy Cameron, 2011 number one draft pick Jonathon Patton and last year’s number one draft pick Tom Boyd.
While Boyd may be just 18, Tomlinson said he is the biggest of the trio at a whopping 201cm and 102kg.
“Boydy’s a big boy, he’s got 12 kilos on me, just like the other boys,” Tomlinson said.
“It’s really good to have him there, it just takes a little bit more pressure off everyone else.
“You don’t really have too many big boys like that come around - it’s really exciting for us.”
After playing 17 games in a breakout 2013 season, Tomlinson is fit and firing as the GIANTS kick off their NAB Challenge campaign against the Swans in Canberra on February 20.
“I haven’t missed any sessions really and I’ve been really happy with the way I’ve run, the way I’ve moved so hopefully I can take it into the season and have a really good year,” he said.
And off-field, Tomlinson said his new life in Sydney has been just as successful.
“Phil (Davis) and I live in Balmain now so there’s a lot of boys in the area. It’s a really quick trip to the city or to the beach so it’s really going well,” he said.
But he refused to spill the beans on his co-captain’s bad habits.
“He’s a pretty down the line person to be honest, he likes to keep his room clean. He gets a bit edgy around the house sometimes but it’s been really good. He keeps to himself a lot though so there’s no real dirty secrets there.”
