It’s Sydney Derby XIII eve which means it’s time to look at the stats that could make all the difference when the GIANTS take on the in-form Swans at Spotless Stadium on Saturday.
The Swans have been firing at all cylinders over the past month and that’s mainly thanks to their increase in finding the football.
By round 12 the Swans were languishing at 12th in the competition for disposals compared to their opposition, collecting 10.5 touches less than their opponents.
Their last month has seen them rocket to third in the competition with the Swans dominating the disposal count, collecting an average of 32.2 disposals more than their opponents.
Saturday’s meeting will see the top two teams for uncontested possession meet, which means the game will be won around the contest.
The GIANTS are ranked third in the competition for the most stoppages across the last month, averaging 70.7 per game. This means that the GIANTS’ midfield will need to be on their toes as the Swans have been second for clearance differential over the past month, winning 5.5 more clearances than their opponents.
And while the Swans have had less stoppages than the GIANTS over the past month, they are first in the competition for points scored from stoppages at +21.
The Swans have not only been finding the football but they’ve been getting it forward and locking it inside fifty.
They average 30 forward half turnovers per game (second in the AFL for the last month) which is a big reason why they’re ranked third in the competition for scoring.
It’s a drastic improvement on their early season form which saw them average only 23 forward half turnovers by round 12 and ranked 13th in the competition for scoring.
The GIANTS, despite recording two consecutive draws, are the third best offensive side in the league, averaging 103.7 points per-game.
Be there as the GIANTS take on cross-town rivals the Swans in the latest instalment in the Sydney Derby in a blockbuster Saturday night clash at Spotless Stadium.
