GIANTS midfielder Stephen Coniglio has accepted a $1000 fine with an early plea for engaging in rough conduct against Gold Coast Suns captain Gary Ablett.
The incident took place during the fourth quarter of the GIANTS’ 15-point win over the Suns at Metricon Stadium when Coniglio tackled the dual Brownlow medalist.
Coniglio appeared to have hold of Ablett’s arm while effecting the tackle. It was judged by the Match Review Panel to be intentional conduct with low impact to the body.
This offence was classified as a $1500 sanction. With no applicable bad record, an early plea reduced the penalty to a $1000 sanction.
Coniglio matched up against Ablett for much of the game and had 25 disposals along with 5 tackles. Ablett, in his third game back from injury, gathered 30 possessions and laid a career-high 17 tackles.
