Curtly Hampton and Zac Williams have led the UWS GIANTS to a 63-point win over the Swans reserves in round two of the NEAFL.
The GIANTS led all day to win 17.19 (121) to 9.4 (58) at Lakeside Oval, Moore Park.
Hampton and Williams both spent time in the midfield and were amongst the best, along with exciting forward Will Hoskin-Elliott who kicked five goals in his first match back from a shoulder injury.
Hoskin-Elliott hasn’t played since colliding with a Swans opponent in the final NAB Challenge match at StarTrack Oval, Canberra last month.
Five goals and an impressive display in the forward line and the wing could see Hoskin-Elliott in the mix for the GIANTS' historic match on ANZAC Day against Gold Coast in Canberra.
The UWS back line was of true AFL standard with Tim Mohr, Matt Buntine and Adam Kennedy all playing well.
UWS GIANTS Coach Brett Hand said the strong first half set up the victory.
"I was really impressed with how we attacked the contest and won the footy. Our defensive pressure was really good when they had the ball resulting in quite a few turnovers," Hand said.
"We knew it was going to be really competitive out there against some big bodies the Swans have so we took some confidence out of that and despite not making them pay on the scoreboard we took the early ascendancy and continued on from there.
"The leadership that Tim Mohr has shown in the last fortnight has really helped our back six and with Matt Buntine and Adam Kennedy also providing plenty of instruction and direction for our young guys.
"To then have Hampton and Williams changing between the middle and half back really gives us the run and drive we need," he said.
The GIANTS were down to three fit players on the bench after half time with Tim Golds not returning to the field after receiving a heavy knock midway through the second term.
Ruckman Rory Lobb suffered an ankle injury late in the match with the full extent of his injury to be known early in the week.
UWS GIANTS 17.19 (121) def. Swans reserves 9.4 (58)
Goals: Hoskin-Elliott 5, Addison, Reid 2, Barrett, Hampton, Kennedy, Lobb, Mohr, Tiziani, Williams
Best: Hampton, Williams, Hoskin-Elliott, Buntine, Mohr, Lamb
