GIANTS Head Coach, Kevin Sheedy spoke about the exciting young talent that his club secured in last night’s NAB AFL National Draft in front of a huge contingent of national media today.
Sheedy spoke about the groups enormous potential and the promising future that these exciting young players represent for the AFL’s newest club.
“These group of players have put their performances on the board, to really have a go at this game and be up in the top twelve draft picks is a fantastic effort”
“The list we have here will complement the players we already have. The boys we pre-selected last year as seventeen year olds could quite easily have been in this group.”
Sheedy also poke about the challenges that lay ahead for the young GIANTS, and said that managing the young talent correctly will be essential in ensuring their arrival as potential Superstars of the game.
“If we play a person too early it can have a great impact on their confidence and their career. If you play a person at the right point in their maturity you could get a player like Dustin Fletcher, who played in year 12 in a grand final, and is coming up to play his twentieth year of AFL football.
“ It’s about the person more than the selection.
“In saying that though I have no problem playing young players, I won a premiership in 1993 with seven or eight of them. We will work it out and try to get it as right as possible.”
With the GIANTS having eleven of the first fourteen picks and a talented crop of new and exciting young talent at the club’s disposal, Sheedy is confident success will burn brightly in the GIANTS future.
“We will keep this team together and keep working. We will be a champion team no doubt about it.”
