Greater Western Sydney midfielder Tom Scully says he felt no disappointment at missing out on the new club's captaincy and was pleased to make the leadership group.

When Scully made his high-profile move from Melbourne to the Giants, many tipped him to lead GWS into its inaugural AFL campaign.

Earlier this month, the GIANTS announced Luke Power, Callan Ward and Phil Davis as co-captains.

Scully was named in an extended leadership group - which also features the likes of Chad Cornes, Rhys Palmer and Setanta O'hAilpin - and that's just fine with him.

"Absolutely not," Scully said when asked if he was disappointed to miss out on the captaincy.

"I'm absolutely rapt to be put in the leadership group, it's a tremendous honour.

"The three captains that have been selected are fantastic leaders at the club and they're going to take this club forward."

Scully copped some criticism for his lack of productivity in his first NAB Cup match with the Giants a fortnight ago, when he registered five possessions and three tackles against the Western Bulldogs before sitting out the second match against Collingwood.

The barbs aimed at Scully seemed premature given it was his first hit out of 2012 and came in a shortened 40-minute platform.

Next up for the Giants is a full-length NAB Cup game against Hawthorn in Launceston on Saturday and Scully expects to play plenty of minutes and have more of a contribution.

"With a full-length game it gives you more opportunity to work into the game," he said.

"There were a few boys who were a bit rusty, myself included, so we're looking forward to getting out there and having another good hit out.

“There’s no doubt that we’ll be going in to the game to win it, you do that every match but at the same time we won’t be too hung up on the result.

“Hawthorn is a great opposition; it’s certainly going to be another good test for us. I think the boys are just looking to see what we can get out of four quarters of footy.”
