A seven-goal haul by Rory Lobb has helped the UWS GIANTS to a 192-point thrashing of Brisbane Reserves at Spotless Stadium on Sunday.
The NEAFL curtain raiser set a high standard for the afternoon with the GIANTS’ senior side following up with a convincing 30-point win over the Brisbane Lions.
Lobb wasn’t the only force up forward with Dylan Addison (five goals), Jarrod Pickett (four goals) and Jed Lamb (three goals) all dangerous throughout the match.
The injury-ravaged Lions were only able to field six senior-listed players, their side primarily featuring top-up selections.
UWS GIANTS Coach Brett Hand said he was pleased with the range of contributors.
“It was great to see 14 different players score goals which showed we shared it around and looked for people in better positions,” Hand said.
“We stuck to our structures, took our time when in possession and our ball use was exceptional throughout the game.
“Lobb performed really well obviously and kicked seven but he was also quite unselfish which was great to see. He’s certainly knocking on the door for senior selection.
“It’s a good sign when our forwards are trying to bring other players into the game instead of blazing away themselves."
The UWS GIANTS dominated possession throughout the match, leading the disposal count 450-179.
Midfielder Jake Barrett was unstoppable on ball, accumulating 44 touches, five marks and nine tackles while draftee Paul Ahern also contributed with 34 disposals.
Exciting Canberra product Jack Steele also continued his impressive season with 28 touches, nine marks and two goals.
The match saw the return of several familiar faces including Rhys Palmer, Liam Sumner and Jacob Townsend who all made successful comebacks from long-term injuries.
“It was great to see those boys back on the park after an interrupted start to the season,” Hand said.
“Palmer was good after missing nearly two months while Sumner and Townsend played a half each and showed some great signs."
Next Saturday the top-of-the-ladder UWS GIANTS face Southport Sharks at Fankhauser Reserve in Queensland.
