Academy product Will Setterfield has become a GIANT with pick five in the 2016 NAB AFL Draft.
Carlton bid on the midfielder from Albury and the GIANTS matched the bid for the 18-year-old with pick five.
Setterfield, who’s been part of the GIANTS Academy since the age of 13, combines a solid inside game as a midfielder with strong run-and-carry and he rarely wastes a possession.
The former Caulfield Grammar boarder is the prototype for the new-age midfielder given his 191cm height and athleticism, and can play all over the ground.
He finished his under-18s division two carnival for the winning Rams with 28 disposals and six tackles in a commanding showing.
Setterfield is rated as one of the most complete midfielders in the draft, after a particularly strong end of the season for the Sandringham Dragons in the TAC Cup.
He showed his fondness of the tough stuff – in the elimination final he had 10 clearances and 16 tackles and was the most important player on the ground – but he also became a more regular ball-winner, averaging 24 disposals in his final three TAC Cup games.
Setterfield was the GIANTS’ second selection of the night following Victorian forward/midfielder Tim Taranto at pick two.
