Background: Mumford was selected by Geelong with pick 57 in the 2008 Rookie Draft before joining Sydney ahead of the 2010 season. Mumford then made the move across-town to the GIANTS at the end of the 2013 season and won the club’s Best and Fairest in his first year.
Best Game: AFL Round 10 v Brisbane - 15 touches, 4 marks, 8 tackles and 51 hit-outs.
Summary: Shane Mumford was on track for possible All Australian selection until a nasty ankle injury against Collingwood in Round 11 derailed his season. The big-man took his game to another level in 2015, becoming arguably the most physical ruck-man in the competition, averaging 6.4 tackles. Despite missing the last half of the season, Mumford still finished 12th in overall hit-outs, averaging 38 per match.
Pat On The Back: An intimidating force in the GIANTS’ midfield, Shane Mumford is constantly putting his body on the line. He sets the standard for physicality and his teammates walk taller whenever he plays. When Mumford went down with injury he spent most of his time helping to develop the GIANTS’ young ruck division.

Look Ahead: If you thought Mumford was strong in 2015, just wait until he takes the field next season. Mumford has been spending extra time in the gym while he recovers from ankle surgery. If you’re an opposition player in his way, look out.
