Following the successful launch of the club’s new brand campaign - There’s a GIANT in all of us - the GIANTS have released the next instalment.
The next piece focuses on Jeremy Cameron’s passage from a 17-year-old joining the club from the tiny town of Dartmoor in western Victoria to being the GIANTS’ four-time leading goal kicker and first ever All Australian.
Using a combination of inner sanctum vision and audio recordings of Cameron, the emotive piece tells the story of his - and the club’s - journey to where we are today.
The initial piece in the campaign focused on the match day journey of young fan Lincoln and his hero Jeremy Cameron.
The second piece connects with the wider GIANTS community that has seen the club grow, focusing on the GIANTS’ passage from humble beginnings to a recognisable force representing the communities of Western Sydney and Canberra.
Over the coming weeks the GIANTS will also release pieces with ruckman Shane Mumford and young defender Zac Williams that show, There’s a GIANT in all of us.
There’s a GIANT in Jeremy Cameron
When I got to the GIANTS it was daunting because you’d moved away from home, you didn’t know any of the guys and then when we actually got to playing football we were getting belted every game.
It was like the more we got belted, the more it brought us together to be a better side. Looking back, the first few years has set this club up basically on the back of those huge losses… You don’t forget that.
There’s a lot of games where we lost by 100 points. My second game ever we lost by 130 points, I remember we lost by 160 points to Hawthorn at the MCG.
There’s not much you could do, there’s just good players around you. We were like little kids that come from Western Sydney.
It was tough but I’m so happy we went through those times. It builds a lot of confidence with the guys around you, to know that they’ve been there through it the whole time with you.
There were a lot of people in the first few years when we were getting belted saying it was pointless, we were going to get kicked out of the AFL, they’re going to cut the team. As much as that hurts, that’s what makes you stronger as well.
The word that we really hate inside the GIANTS is that we’re talented. That’s the last thing we want to rely on. We want to be hard-working and work hard for each other and base everything around hard work.
Inside the walls of the club we’re not young anymore, we can take it up to whoever we’re coming up against. There’s just a lot of belief inside the club.
It’s time. It’s time now. It’s our time.
