The GIANTS are excited to announce that young midfielder Claire Ransom has signed a new two-year contract.
The new deal will see Ransom remain a GIANT until at least the end of the 2026 AFLW season.
Joining the club last year ahead of the 2024 season, Ransom showed promising signs as an inside midfielder in her first season in orange and charcoal.
Originally drafted with pick 34 in the 2022 AFLW Draft by the Gold Coast Suns, the talented young Tasmanian spent two seasons with the Suns before making the move to the GIANTS in 2024.
Impressing on debut for the GIANTS in their round one clash with the Western Bulldogs, Ransom went on to play in 10 out of the club’s 11 games across the 2024 season, quickly establishing herself as a regular piece of the GIANTS’ midfield.
A strong inside player with silky skills, Ransom was frequently tasked with nullifying the opposition's best onballer in 2024.
A former standout for the Tasmania Devils in the NAB League Girls' competition, Ransom was named vice-captain of the 2022 team and was selected in both the 2021 and 2022 NAB League Teams of the Year before being drafted by the Suns and then making her move to the GIANTS.
GIANTS Executive General Manager of AFLW and Football Operations, Alison Zell, expressed her excitement about Ransom's new contract.
"Claire’s attitude since joining the club has been exceptional and we’re thrilled to have her commit to the club for the next two years,” she said.
“Claire is a really hard worker who strives to get the best out of herself and we’re excited to see her continue to develop and contribute to the team in the seasons ahead."
Ransom is the latest in a host of recent re-signings at the GIANTS, with speedy winger Madison Brazendale and star Irish ruck Eilish O’Dowd both also signing multiple-year deals.
