The Greater Western Sydney GIANTS have today received pick 3 in the 2016 NAB AFL Draft from the Fremantle Dockers in exchange for forward Cameron McCarthy and picks 7, 33 and 71.
McCarthy, 21, played 21 games for the GIANTS before sitting out the 2016 season due to personal reasons.
GIANTS General Manager Football Wayne Campbell said it was in the best interests of all parties to release McCarthy from the final year of his contract with the GIANTS.
"With Cameron's strong desire to return to Western Australia, we worked closely with his management team to facilitate a deal that we feel benefits everyone involved,” Campbell said.
“Cam's welfare was always the priority for everyone at the GIANTS and the club wishes him the very best for the rest of his career.
“Securing the third pick in the draft is significant as it puts us in a strong position to further enhance our playing list."
Originally from South Fremantle, McCarthy joined the GIANTS as the 14th pick in the 2013 NAB AFL Draft.
The GIANTS currently hold picks 3, 15, 16, 35, 53 and 107 at next month’s NAB AFL Draft.
