The GIANTS can confirm National Women’s League (NWL) marquee player Renee Forth has suffered a serious knee injury while playing for the Coastal Titans in a WAWFL semi-final on Sunday.
Scans revealed on Tuesday that 29-year-old Forth ruptured her anterior cruciate ligament, medial collateral ligament and lateral meniscus in her right knee during Sunday’s match.
At this stage the injury will rule Forth out of the inaugural NWL competition, due to begin in January 2017, however she will still be involved with the GIANTS’ NWL team.
“The GIANTS will support Renee in her rehabilitation from this injury and welcome her enthusiasm to continue her planned move to Sydney to be part of our team,” said GIANTS Chief Operating Officer Richard Griffiths.
“We will provide Renee with the best medical care for her knee and look forward to her being a long-term player for our club.
“We are also keen to have her involved off-field while she does rehabilitate and we’re looking at her being part of the coaching and/or administration staff for the upcoming season.”
Forth was named as one of the two GIANTS’ marquee players for the upcoming National Women’s League competition along with fellow West Australian Emma Swanson.
The GIANTS will now work with the AFL to determine a replacement player in addition to the four priority player selections granted to the GIANTS as part of their list establishment.
Forth will continue her ambassadorial duties as one of the 16 marquee players across the competition.
