Records aren’t just made to be broken, they are made to be smashed and when it comes to membership records the GIANTS are getting pretty good at smashing them.
The club has raced past their previous membership record of 15,311 members set in 2016, with 15,709 members already signed up in 2017.
Not only have the GIANTS eclipsed their previous record but they’ve done it in record time.
On February 22, 2016 the figure was 8620, an 82 per cent increase on the same time last year.
The inaugural AFL Women’s competition has helped the GIANTS membership rise rapidly with 1,860 people signed on exclusively AFLW members.
The record-breaking figure also comes 34 days before the GIANTS begin their 2017 AFL Premiership season against Adelaide on Sunday, March 26.
GIANTS Chief Executive David Matthews said breaking the record so early in the year is a sign of the clubs growth.
“We’re delighted to pass our previous membership record so early in the year and now set our sights on reaching 20,000 members for the first time,” Mr Matthews said.
“The interest in AFL in Western Sydney and the ACT continues to grow and more and more people are getting behind our club.
“With the club expanding to include a team in the inaugural AFL Women’s competition as well as the creation of GIANTS netball, there’s never been a better time to join the GIANTS."
Membership packages start from just $55 for adults and $26 for juniors. There are a range of options, including Sydney and ACT specific memberships, three-game memberships and interstate memberships.
