GIANTS midfielder Will Setterfield is set to miss the 2018 season after scans confirmed a tear to the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left leg.
The injury occurred in the third term of the GIANTS’ practice match against the Swans at Henson Park in Marrickville on Friday night.
The 20-year-old played two games in his debut season in 2017 and had been one of the GIANTS' best in the early stages of Friday night’s contest.
GIANTS Head of Athletic Performance David Joyce said: “This is a disappointing setback for Will who hadn’t put a foot wrong through the pre-season.
“We’ll consult with the surgeon in the coming days before mapping out a suitable rehabilitation program for Will.
“He’s a terrific young man and he’s got the full support of everyone at the GIANTS behind him.”
The GIANTS start their JLT Community Series this Thursday night against Collingwood at UNSW Canberra Oval.
The game gets underway at 7.10pm with tickets available through Ticketek.
