Greater Western Sydney GIANTS forward Jeremy Cameron has capped off a stellar year by winning the 2013 Kevin Sheedy Medal
Cameron received the club champion award from outgoing GIANTS Head Coach Kevin Sheedy in front of more than 400 people at the Star in Sydney tonight.
The 20-year from Dartmoor had a standout season, playing 21 games and kicking 62 goals to finish third in the Coleman Medal.
Cameron was also named in the 40 man All-Australian Squad and is in contention to become the first GIANTS player to win All-Australian honours.
He also set the club record for most goals in a match, kicking seven goals against Collingwood at the MCG in Round 18.
Kevin Sheedy said the young forward’s performance was one of the best he’d seen by a player who is still to play 40 AFL games.
“Jeremy Cameron had to play a lone hand up forward for a lot of the season and the way he provided an avenue to goal from limited inside 50s was outstanding,” said Sheedy.
“You have to remember that Jeremy didn’t play a game of football until he was 15 years old. He’s worked very hard since coming to the GIANTS and he deserves this award.”
Reigning Sheedy Medal winner Callan Ward was runner up with the GIANTS co-captain averaging 23 possessions a game. Vice-captain Tom Scully was rewarded for a very consistent season by finishing third.
Midfielders Dylan Shiel and Adam Treloar rounded out the top five, finishing in fourth and fifth placed respectively.
On top of the Sheedy Medal, Jeremy Cameron was presented with the Goal of the Year for his effort against Geelong in Round 11, the GIANTSMembers Choice Award and the Leading Goal Kicker Award for his 62 goals.
Tom Scully was recognised for his impressive season by winning the Coaches Award and Devon Smith took out the GIANTS Standards Award.
Number one draft pick Lachie Whitfield received the Hostplus Rising Star Award and midfielder Mark Whiley was presented with the NEAFL Player of the Year Award.
The Lend Lease GIANT Community Footprint Award went to ruckman Jonathan Giles for his contribution to the community, while Jock Cornell was the Slater & Gordon Academy Player of the Year.
Thanks to Reflections Holidays, three lucky GIANTS members won a $2000 Reflections Holidays gift voucher and a $500 prepaid eftpos card. Josh Kelly gives them a call to share the news.
