After 121 games in the AFL, the GIANTS have beaten every team in the competition, except one - the West Coast Eagles.
The head-to-head history between the GIANTS and Eagles is as short as it can be with only five clashes between the two sides since the GIANTS entered the competition in 2012. This year is the first time that the two clubs will meet twice in a season - round 10 and round 22.
This weekend the GIANTS travel to Perth to try and end this five game losing streak against the Eagles, which would see the club have victories recorded against all opponents - a feat that fellow expansion club the Gold Coast Suns haven’t been able to achieve in their 140 games in the AFL.
Despite the limited number of times the two teams have met, they do hold a unique piece of history with their round three match in 2012 being the only AFL Premiership season match to ever be played at Blacktown International Sportspark.
That day saw the Eagles jump out of the blocks with 11 goals in the first quarter and go on to record a comfortable 81-point victory.
The GIANTS struggled to get close to West Coast in their first four outings in both Perth and Sydney with the storied WA based club winning by an average margin of 94 points leading into the 2016 clash.
The GIANTS looked set to secure their first win over the Eagles in round 21 last year at Spotless Stadium before a goal by West Coast ruckman Nic Naitanui on the siren gave the visitors a one-point victory.
This was a victory snatched from the jaws of defeat by West Coast, who trailed by six points when Rory Lobb kicked his fourth goal of the night with only 80 seconds left on the clock.
Fast forward to 2017 and the GIANTS' ability to kick goals in the dying minutes against Collingwood and Richmond and still hold on for victory shows the ever-growing maturity of the club's playing group.
This weekend’s venue of Domain Stadium wasn’t a happy hunting ground for the GIANTS in their first six outings, before defeating Fremantle in round seven, 2016 for the club’s first win in the west.
There hasn’t been much movement of players or staff between the two clubs but one popular former GIANT who has found his way to Subiaco Oval is Jonathan Giles.
The man affectionately known as “Joffa” played 51 games for the GIANTS and will always be part of the club’s history as he was the first player to reach 50 games in the orange and charcoal.
As it happens, his 50th game for the GIANTS happened to be against West Coast at Domain Stadium in 2014.
Giles then moved to Essendon for a season before being traded to West Coast.
He’s played five games this season but wasn’t part of the Eagles’ round nine team. But with West Coast coach Adam Simpson putting his players on notice following a heavy loss to Essendon, Giles could be in line for a recall to play against his former club.
