Despite some departures in recent times, the GIANTS still have a star-studded line-up with plenty of Fantasy relevance. If Toby Greene (FWD, $644,000) can rein in his suspensions, there is no reason he can't be the highest scoring forward in the competition next year. Stephen Coniglio (MID, $663,000) will be hoping for an injury-free season after managing just seven games last year, but he showed his scoring potential in the finals with scores of 134 and 121.
Josh Kelly (MID, $795,000) How many breakout years can one bloke have? Traditionally players will have one significant jump throughout their career but Kelly enters the 2018 season after improving by 17 and then 23 points in the last two years respectively. His most recent average of 113 elevated him to the truly elite level. The young gun ticks all boxes with durability, consistency and ceiling all on his side. If you take finals games into account, Kelly is under-priced with scores of 117, 119 and 126, all of which do not count toward his average or price – in fact, he averaged 120 over his last seven games of the season.
Heath Shaw (DEF, $565,000) had a disappointing year on the back of a sensational 2016 season in which he averaged 102. He seemed to slip down the pecking order in the back line as the developing defenders showed less reliance on the veteran's decision-making ability. At his age it would be easy to think he is on a natural decline, however with Nathan Wilson gone it is worth watching whether Shaw is once again a go-to man for some drive off half-back.
Will Setterfield (FWD/MID, $265,000) had no luck with injury in his debut season but gave us a glimpse of what we can expect next season with a good outing in his first game where he managed 12 possessions, three marks and an impressive six tackles for 70. The 191cm midfielder has been likened to Bulldog star Marcus Bontempelli - need I say more?
Lachie Keefe (DEF/FWD, $170,000) Trying to find basement-priced players is hard at the best of times, let alone ones who have AFL experience. That is why former Pie Keefe is so intriguing, along with the 204cm swingman's ability to play at either end of the ground, basically doubling his chances of getting a game when a line needs bolstering. Who knows – after finishing in the top ten of the 3km time trial, he may be making waves at his new club.
Brent Daniels FWD/MID, $218,000) was taken with pick No.27 on the back of averaging 21 disposals, three marks, three tackles and a goal for 85 points per game for the Bendigo Pioneers and Vic Country. Although he stands only 171cm tall, his skills, speed and agility more than make up for it. One to watch for the forward bench.
Rory Lobb (FWD, $467,000) has never set the world on fire with averages of 66 and 67 over the past two seasons playing predominantly forward. Next year, however, he looks set for a significant role change playing as the sole ruck which gives him an opportunity for significant improvement. Lobb was thrown into the vacant ruck position for the GIANTS' last two finals games where he scored 90 and 83 from 39 and 31 hit-outs respectively.
As much as I love the bloke, Brett Deledio (FWD, $530,000) is having a torrid run with injury and needs to be avoided for that price tag. Before last year he was on an impressive streak, averaging 90+ for nine straight seasons before last year's average of 72 came from just four games. Additionally, he limped through the finals with scores of 53, 49 and 57. Hopefully he has some luck because he is a champion.
