GIANTS AFLW recruit Rebecca Privitelli was drawn to the club by its culture.
The 22-year-old key defender, who played five of the seven games for Carlton in the inaugural 2017 season, said she had no hesitation in joining the GIANTS as a free agent.
“Speaking to a few of the girls that played here last year there’s a really good culture and vibe around the club,” she said.
“Coming here and meeting some of staff you can already tell that everyone is so welcoming and are really excited about the AFL women being here.
“I’m really excited to be part of the culture and that’s what drove me to be part of the GIANTS.”
One of Privitelli’s five games for the Blues was their 13-point win over the GIANTS in round two at Ikon Park.
Privitelli said she was impressed by the GIANTS’ abilities but was looking forward to adding some defensive strength to the side.
“They played good contested footy and gave it a go every time they were out there,” she said.
“They didn’t get the results they wanted last year but I think we’ll come out next year and give it a real go.
“I’d probably say I’m more of a taller player in the backline, I like to think my marking is one of my strengths but if I could become a quick fast player off half back it’d be a goal for me.”
Privitelli has played football since she was a child before climbing the ranks of the Victoria youth girls system and has since become the first-ever head coach of the Northern Knights Football Club women’s team.
The 22-year-old hopes she can bring that leadership to the GIANTS and wants to help grow the game in New South Wales.
“I’ve got a bit of background in footy that I can bring to the club so if I can be a leader in that way and really help drive footy in Sydney,” she said.
“I know it’s a growing sport so if I can play any part in that would be a goal of mine.”
