The GIANTS Academy has produced its fifth NEAFL Rising Star for 2019 with Harry Grant nominated for his performance in the GIANTS’ round 11 win over Redland.
Hailing from Canberra, the Queanbeyan Tigers junior collected 27 disposals, laid three tackles and won three clearances as the GIANTS won by 10 points in Brisbane on Saturday.
The 18-year-old’s nomination follows the nominations of teammates Tom Green in round nine and James Peatling in round seven and former GIANTS Academy player Rhys Pollock in round eight and 2016 NEAFL Premiership player Connor Owen-Auburn (both now at the Canberra Demons) in round four.
Grant has averaged 20 disposals for the GIANTS’ NEAFL side in the past month after a successful NAB League campaign that saw him average 20 disposals, five marks and a goal per game for the GIANTS Academy.
Saturday’s game was just Grant’s seventh since making his NEAFL debut for the GIANTS as a 17-year-old last year.
The NEAFL Rising Star is awarded to the most promising young talent in the NEAFL competition.
Nominees must be under the age of 21 and played less than 20 senior games (excluding games as AFL club academy players) at the start of the 2019 season.
