The GIANTS would like to thank inaugural AFLW GIANT Nicola Barr for her contribution to the club across the past nine seasons.
The GIANTS will bid farewell to Barr, with the 28-year-old to depart the club for St Kilda as part of a three-way trade involving both the Saints and Adelaide Crows.
The GIANTS will receive pick 52 in exchange for Barr and pick 57 ahead of next week’s Telstra AFLW Draft.
An integral piece of the club’s AFLW program since its inception, Barr joined the GIANTS as the number one pick in the inaugural AFLW Draft back in 2016.
One of the most capped AFLW players in the club’s history, Barr played 61 games in orange and charcoal where she had a profound impact both on and off the field on the club’s AFLW program.
Joining the AFLW after taking out the 2016 Mostyn Medal as the Best and Fairest player in the AFL Sydney competition, Barr played a number of crucial roles in her time at the GIANTS, establishing herself as a dashing half-back before a promising move to the forward line in 2022 and then more recently starring as a hard-working winger.
One of the club’s and the competition’s most consistent and versatile players, Barr was also a regular part of the AFLW side’s leadership group and was integral in helping build the foundations of the club’s female program.
Highlighting her tremendous impact off the field, Barr is a three-time winner of the club’s Community Award.
GIANTS Executive General Manager of AFLW and Football Operations, Alison Zell, thanked Barr for her services to the club.
“We want to thank Nic for her nine seasons at the club and her fantastic contributions to our AFLW program,” Zell said.
“As an inaugural player of our AFLW program we’ve watched Nic have a profound impact on the club both on and off the field and we wish her all the best with her next chapter.”
The AFLW Trade Period runs until Wednesday, December 11, with the Telstra 2024 AFLW Draft scheduled for Monday, December 16.
The GIANTS will now head into next week’s Telstra AFLW Draft with picks 3, 21, 52, 65, 75, 93, 111, 129.
