Pre-season is well under way at the GIANTS, with the club welcoming its exciting new crop of draftees on Friday as the jumper numbers they’ll be wearing in their debut seasons were revealed.
Draftees Ollie Hannaford, Harrison Oliver, Cody Angove, Jack Ough, Logan Smith, and Josaia Delana all received their new jumpers on Friday as they joined the club’s second to fourth year players in their first day at the VAILO Community Centre.
First-round draftee Ollie Hannaford will begin his AFL career in the number 13 jumper left vacant by Isaac Cumming.
Taken with the club’s first pick of the 2024 Draft at pick 18, Hannaford is a speedy and versatile utility who joins the GIANTS following his eye-catching late-season form as a medium forward with the Greater Western Victoria (GWV) Rebels.
Fellow Victorian Harrison Oliver will take on the number 19 for his debut AFL season, most recently worn by inaugural GIANT Nick Haynes.
Taken directly following Hannaford with pick 19 in last week’s draft, Oliver is a composed and hard-running rebound defender who will be looking to break into Adam Kingsley’s backline in 2025.
West Australian Cody Angove, the club’s third first-round pick of the draft, will pull on jumper number 29 at the GIANTS, a number most recently belonging to Phoenix Gothard who is changing his number for his second season.
Boasting a strong athletic profile with great speed, endurance and agility, Angove joins the GIANTS following a strong season for both WA and Claremont’s Colts side.
Pick 36 Jack Ough will wear the number 28 for the GIANTS, a number previously worn by young gun Harvey Thomas who will don a new number in 2025 following his brilliant debut season.
A 194cm midfielder, Ough blossomed in 2024 with impressive performances playing as both an inside and outside midfielder alongside fellow draftee Hannaford for both Vic Country and the GWV Rebels.
Meanwhile, GIANTS Academy duo Logan Smith and Josaia Delana will wear numbers 36 and 38 respectively in their debut AFL seasons.
The 2024 GIANTS Academy Player of the Year, Smith takes over the number 36 left vacant by Harry Perryman following a brilliant season which saw the young ruck named in the under 18 All-Australian side.
While Delana, an exciting small forward hailing from Western Sydney, takes over the number 38 jumper most recently worn by Daniel Lloyd.
After kicking off pre-season with the club’s 2–4-year players this week, the remainder of the GIANTS’ senior group will return to the track on Monday for a two-week block until the Christmas break, before returning in early-January ready for a big 2025.
