The GIANTS are delighted to announce that exciting rebounding defender Cambridge McCormick has signed a new two-year deal with the club.

McCormick’s signature will see the 25-year-old remain a GIANT through until at least the end of the 2026 AFLW season.

Selected by the GIANTS out of the AFL Canberra competition in the 2022 AFLW Draft, McCormick was originally used as a ruck and a key defender across her first two seasons before transitioning into the side’s most damaging rebounding defender this season.

Blessed with line-breaking pace and a penetrating kick, McCormick showcased her huge potential in her new role across half back in the opening rounds of the 2024 season before suffering a syndesmosis injury in round three.

Missing six matches with the ankle injury, McCormick made a stellar return to the field in Saturday’s clash with the Dockers at Henson Park, with her dash and dare off half back a standout as she finished with 14 touches at 93 per cent efficiency, six intercept possessions, four tackles and three inside 50s.

Establishing herself in her new role as a key piece in Cam Bernasconi’s side, the GIANTS are delighted to have secured McCormick’s signature for two more years.

The new deal comes following the club’s recent re-signings of skipper Bec Beeson, young gun Kaitlyn Srhoj, and star defender Izzy Huntington.

GIANTS Executive General Manager of AFLW and Football Operations, Alison Zell, said McCormick’s new deal is fantastic news for the club.

“Cambridge has really developed into a key part of our backline and we’re thrilled to have her remain with the club for at least another two years,” Zell said.

“It’s clear we’ve found her role as a rebounding defender and we’re really excited to see her continue to develop in that role and see what she can produce for us in the future.

“We have a really exciting emerging young group and we see Cambridge as a key piece of what we see as a promising future for the club.”

McCormick and her teammates will look to close out their 2024 campaign on a high this weekend when they take on the Power in Adelaide on Sunday afternoon.
