Exciting GIANTS youngster Joe Fonti has been rewarded for his strong start to his AFL career with a two-year contract extension.
Already contracted until the end of next season, Fonti’s new deal will see the promising teenage defender remain a GIANT through until at least the end of the 2027 season.
Taken with pick 44 in last year’s draft following strong performances for Claremont in the WAFL in his home state of Western Australia, Fonti broke through for an impressive AFL debut against Carlton in round 17 where he finished with 17 disposals in an eye-catching performance out of defence.
Showcasing his dash and dare as well as composure beyond his years, the athletic 19-year-old has five AFL appearances to his name so far in a strong maiden campaign with the GIANTS.
Shaping as one of the steals of last year’s draft, Fonti’s strong aerial prowess and his line-breaking speed off half-back have him well equipped for a successful future with the GIANTS.
GIANTS Executive General Manager of Football, Jason McCartney, said it is great for the club to have another promising young talent locked away.
“We’re thrilled to have extended Joe’s contract for another two years,” McCartney said.
“Joe’s potential has been evident since joining the club and we are really excited about what he can develop into at the GIANTS.
“He’s already shown a huge amount of growth across his first season and we’re really confident that in our environment he can become a really valuable player for us at AFL level well into the future.”
Fonti’s contract extension follows a host of recent re-signings for the club, with Brent Daniels, Lachie Ash, Jesse Hogan, Sam Taylor and Harvey Thomas just some of the recent names penning new deals with the GIANTS.
