The GIANTS are thrilled to secure one of the competition’s most dynamic players for a further six years, with star small forward Brent Daniels signing a monster contract extension with the club.
A key piece in the GIANTS’ orange tsunami, Daniels’ signature will see him remain in orange and charcoal until at least the end of the 2031 AFL season.
Drafted to the club with pick 27 in the 2017 draft, Daniels has played 104 games for the GIANTS to not only establish himself as one of the club’s most important players but one of the AFL’s most dynamic and damaging small forwards.
Daniels’ new deal comes on the back of a brilliant 2024 campaign to date, with the 25-year-old this week named in the All Australian squad for the first time as the GIANTS prepare for another finals campaign
Daniels currently sits elite amongst the competition for small forwards in disposals (18.1 per game), kicks (10.8), handballs (7.3) and tackles (4.3).
Highlighting his impact to both hit the scoreboard and get teammates involved, Daniels is the number one ranked player in the AFL for goal assists this season (33), to go along with 23 majors of his own playing as a high half-forward.
GIANTS Executive General Manager of Football, Jason McCartney, is delighted to lock away the star small forward for six more years, with Daniels previously coming out of contract at the end of next year.
“We’re thrilled to secure Brent for the next six years as we prepare for another finals campaign,” McCartney said.
“For Brent to sign a long-term deal with the club as he approached free agency is a huge endorsement of the future he sees here and our football program as a whole.
“Since joining the club back in 2017, he’s developed into a pivotal player for us and it’s great to have him remain a GIANT for what we see as a really exciting future for the club.
“While he’s always been highly regarded internally, it’s fantastic to see him starting to get the external recognition he deserves for the talented and hard-working player he is and for what he brings to our side.
“We’re excited to continue to watch him develop on and off the field and contribute to our future success. It’s a fantastic way to enter another finals campaign.”
