Jack Buckley, Darcy Jones and Josh Fahey will be sidelined following injuries over the weekend.
Key defender Buckley will miss two to three weeks with a calf injury following Saturday’s loss to the Bulldogs. Buckley played out the game with scans on Sunday revealing a calf strain.
Youngster Darcy Jones was subbed out of the same match in the opening quarter with a hamstring injury, with scans revealing damage to his hamstring tendon. The second-year GIANT is expected to miss six-to-eight weeks.
Meanwhile, Josh Fahey suffered a lisfranc foot injury late in the VFL clash on Saturday with the Academy product set for surgery this week.
GIANTS Head of Medical, James Rahme, said:
“It’s disappointing news for a number of key players following the weekend’s games.
“Scans have indicated a calf strain, but no tendon involvement, for Jack who did incredibly well to play out the game given the duress he was under. We hope to get him back following the bye.
“It’s also disappointing for Darcy that he has damaged his hamstring tendon which will sideline him for slightly longer than a traditional strain.
“Josh saw a specialist on Monday and will undergo surgery on Tuesday on his foot which will unfortunately rule him out for around three-to-four months.”
Defender Leek Aleer will continue to progress through the 12-day concussion protocols but is expected to be available for selection this weekend.
“Leek will continue to tick off his requirements under the protocols but at this stage is feeling well and progressing as expected,” Rahme said.
