The GIANTS’ round one line up will be headlined by two debutants, with Fleur Davies and Teagan Germech earning selection for Sunday's Sydney Derby at North Sydney Oval.

The GIANTS will meet the Swans in the opening round match, just the second edition of the Sydney Derby in the AFLW competition.

Davies selection in the round one side was confirmed on Wednesday, with fellow debutant Germech announced during the team meeting on Thursday afternoon.

The 20-year-old was a late addition to the GIANTS’ 2023 list, called up as a replacement player following a season-ending injury to Tait Mackrill.

A story of resilience, Germech relocated to the Central Tablelands in Canberra in 2021 in a bid to pursue her AFLW ambitions. Having represented the Bathurst GIANTS, Belconnen Magpies and most recently the East Coast Eagles, the 20-year-old's sacrifices have all been worth it.

GIANTS AFLW Head Coach Cam Bernasconi, said he is eager to get the season underway.

“It’s super exciting to welcome two new debutants in round one,” he said.

“It’s an exciting game for everyone but especially those two girls.

“It’s been a long pre-season but we feel well prepared and I'm looking forward to seeing all that hard work put into action on Sunday.

“We’re focused on us and playing our brand of footy.”

The GIANTS will open their 2023 season when they meet cross-town rivals the Swans at North Sydney Oval at 3:05pm on Sunday.
