The Greater Western Sydney GIANTS hit the track today for a tough team building session.

The newest GIANTS draftees watched on as their new teammates lifted tyres, weights and ropes in the heat.

GIANTS Sports Science Manager, John Quinn said that these sessions help build up camaraderie in the playing group while testing the physical strength of his players outside of the gym.

“We’re looking at different ways of getting strength in to the players.

“We have fantastic equipment and facilities at our disposal but we also want to look at ways for our players to apply that strength in a real setting.

“It’s all well and good getting players to do squats in the gym but we want them to be able to co ordinate their upper body strength with their lower body strength and this is a great way of doing it.

“These sessions will grow in volume and intensity over the coming weeks.”

Quinn was thrilled with the way that the players have responded to this training so far and warned that it would become even tougher as they prepare for the club’s first ever AFL season.

“We’re really happy with how this is going, we’ve done two of these sessions so far and the players have really enjoyed it.

“We’ve got some really exciting stuff coming. We will build it gradually to avoid injuries and each week it will grow.

“It’s a good fun way and it’s a physically challenging way to get the most out of them. At the end of the day, that’s strength and conditioning’s job.”
