Rhys Palmer will be the first to admit that his game against the Power at Adelaide Oval in round 20 didn’t start so well.

Eight minutes into the game, Palmer was running into an open goal with no Port player within 15 metres.

He bounced once, got to the edge of the goal square, then horribly fluffed another bounce attempt - the ball spilled, allowing Port's Matthew White to gather ground and apply a score-saving tackle.

The moment has just been named as AFL.com.au’s funniest of the 2015 season - an honour Palmer will probably happily accept now, considering how he redeemed himself.

While the GIANTS would eventually go down to Port by 21-points in a fiery clash, Palmer almost single-handedly dragged the GIANTS over the line with his performance.

After the horrible opening to the day, the forward went on to kick five goals for the game - a career-best - and finish with 16 disposals, six marks and two tackles.

“That’s footy, you have to move onto the next contest,” Palmer told the Daily Telegraph at the time.

“In the past I probably would have let it affect me and have a shocking day but I felt like I put it behind me and concentrated on the next contest. That’s what you have to do just keep playing your role, that’s what Leon wants me to do.”

Coach Leon Cameron wasn’t too impressed with Palmer’s start but admired his mental toughness.

“He should have laid it off (to Kelly) but to kick five goals in a game of footy is a good effort,” Cameron said.

“He’s the sort of player who finds a way, he’s not the most gifted player in the AFL but he puts his head over the footy and gives 100 per cent.

“He’s had enormous setbacks with the injuries he’s had those sort of players are valuable. For him to stand up like that in a big game shows what sort of character he’s got.”

After a top-10 finish in the GIANTS’ 3km time trial yesterday, Palmer looks ready and raring to go for the 2016 season, but he might be hoping that a spot in the top 10 funniest moments of the year is an honour he doesn’t receive again.
