The Chief Executive of the Greater Western Sydney GIANTS David Matthews has made the following comments in response to an article by Jay Clark in today’s Herald Sun newspaper.
“Kevin Sheedy celebrates a significant milestone this week – the first person in the history of the VFL/AFL to reach 1,000 games as a player or coach. The assertion by Jay Clark in today’s Herald Sun that Kevin would set out to deliberately lose any game he is involved in is an insult.
“There is no doubt that we are experiencing a very challenging period on the field as recent games against top four teams have shown. But we are absolutely striving to win and committed to developing our young playing list. To suggest otherwise is not only a slur on our coaching staff but also our players and club generally.
“We look forward to our remaining matches this season beginning with this Saturday’s game against Port Adelaide at Skoda Stadium which promises to be a fitting tribute to Kevin Sheedy and his magnificent contribution to the game spanning six decades.”
