Current AFLW Assistant Coach Georgia Walker has been appointed as the new Head Coach of the GIANTS’ Female Academy program.
Walker had a short playing career in the early years of the AFLW competition with Collingwood but transitioned into coaching after ongoing issues with concussion.
Following her retirement in 2018, Walker worked as a defensive line coach with the Southern Saints in the VFLW before relocating to NSW to work with the GIANTS Academy under current AFLW Head Coach Cameron Bernasconi. Walker then joined the GIANTS’ AFLW program as an Assistant Coach.
With Bernasconi’s departure from the Academy to head up the AFLW program, the opportunity presented itself for Walker to take the next step in her coaching career.
“When Cam (Bernasconi) was elevated to the AFLW program they made the decision to split his role, with Tadhg (Kennelly) taking the boys program and myself taking the girls program,” Walker said.
“I look after the Under-16s to Under-19s, where I’m currently focusing on implementing new drills, new terminology, and development plans that will give our players insight into what it’s like at the elite level.”
Walker recently led the Under-16s team in the 2023 AFL U16 National Championships.
