GIANTS co-captain Callan Ward has started running again as he continues his rehabilitation from season-ending knee surgery.

In positive sides for the club’s games record holder, Ward ran unassisted for the first time since he ruptured his ACL in the GIANTS’ round four win over Geelong.

The 29-year-old was cheered on by team-mates as he ran his first steps on the turf of Tom Wills Oval at the WestConnex Centre.

Ward is looking to make his playing return in the AFL for round one of the 2020 season.

GIANTS General Manager of Football Wayne Campbell said Ward has been extremely diligent since undergoing surgery earlier this year.

“His off-field spirit and being there on game day and there in leadership meetings and helping the young mids has been amazing, but to see him out there running was a great fillip for all.”
