Running defender Nathan Wilson returns to the GIANTS line up alongside co-captain Phil Davis for Sunday’s match against Brisbane at Spotless Stadium.

With the GIANTS squad of 25 reduced to the final 22, Wilson will line up for his fifth AFL game this season following some impressive NEAFL form while Davis returns from suspension.

As revealed on Thursday night, Nick Haynes will miss the match with a groin injury and Adam Kennedy has been omitted.

Jack Steele, Zac Williams and Rory Lobb have been named as the emergencies.

Coach Leon Cameron said Wilson deserves his spot back in the team:

“He’s been in really good form on the half-back flank at NEAFL level for probably three or four weeks,” he said.

“He was a little bit stiff to go out of the team, he played some pretty good footy and was sub for a couple of weeks.

“Spots are really tight. It was one of those positions where you could pick Nathan, you could look at Zac Williams, you could look at Curtly Hampton. In the end Nathan got the call up.”

The GIANTS host Brisbane for the first time at Spotless Stadium on Sunday afternoon on a Sunday Funday with kids under 15 free.

“We’re coming up against a good, young side in Brisbane, so they’re going to be coming at us and we have to make sure we do the basics really well,” Cameron said.

“Brisbane can really cut you up if you don’t play some really good pressure footy so it’s a good challenge on Sunday.”
