Forward Jonathon Patton has informed the club in today’s exit interview that he wishes to explore a potential move to the Hawthorn Football Club during the upcoming AFL Trade Period.
26-year-old Patton has played 89 games across his eight seasons in the competition after being drafted with the number one pick of the 2011 Draft.
Two serious knee injuries curtailed his career early before he kicked hauls of 38 goals and 45 goals in 2016 and 2017 respectively.
Patton is recovering from a third ACL injury, with the forward last taking to the field in July, 2018.
“It’s been a tough road for Jon, particularly in recent times,” said GIANTS General Manager of Football Wayne Campbell.
“He’s shown remarkable resilience over his career through multiple setbacks and has continued to put his best foot forward in his rehabilitation.
“While Jon is contracted, we understand his want for a fresh start and will endeavour to do a deal with the Hawks once the Trade Period commences.”
Patton is contracted to the GIANTS for the 2020 season. The AFL Trade Period runs from October 7-16.
