Where and when: Sunday, October 30 at 5:10pm at Henson Park
Tickets: To celebrate the end of a big big year of AFLW, entry to Sunday’s match is FREE!
Last time they met: The two sides last met in the opening round of season six earlier this year. Played at Great Barrier Reef Arena, Mackay, in Northern Queensland it was the GIANTS who claimed a 15-point win over the Suns at their home away from home. GIANTS midfielder Alyce Parker was arguably best afield with 21 disposals and eight tackles, while Alicia Eva (22 possessions), Haneen Zreika (16 disposals), and 40-year-old Irish forward Cora Staunton (two goals) were also crucial.
Broadcast: Sunday’s match between the GIANTS and Suns will be shown live and free on 7Mate in NSW and ACT from 5:00pm. The match will also be shown nationally on Fox Footy, Kayo Sports and via the Official AFLW app.
What it means for the GIANTS: The GIANTS currently sit in 13th position, with three wins. After an up and down season and some injuries to key players the GIANTS find themselves out of the race for finals. In their final game of season seven, the GIANTS will continue to refine their new game plan and build their foundations for next season.
Where is the opposition at: The Suns enter the final round of the home and away season sitting one win outside the top eight in ninth position. A percentage boosting win on the weekend, along with results going their way, could see the Suns qualify for their first finals appearance. They come off a 27-point win over Carlton.
Player Watch: Cora Staunton – a milestone game for the one of the most iconic players to wear the orange and charcoal. After bringing up her 50thAFLW goal in the opening round this season, Staunton will bring up game 50. Staunton currently leads the GIANTS for goals scored in season seven, registering seven goals so far.
In the mix: Georgie Fowler and Grace Hill are both available to return for another game this season, while Tess Cattle and Zara Hamilton are the two available players selected to make their AFLW debut in the final game of the season. After pushing for a final game return, Chloe Dalton was unable to prove her fitness.
