The GIANTS have been recognised at the Australian Football Media Awards, winning the category for most outstanding club content for the One-Eyed GIANT series and claiming the club’s second Australian Football Media Award.
The GIANTS’ media department was presented with the Best Club Content Award at the AFMAs in Melbourne on Tuesday night.
The award was judged on originality, impact, creativity and public interaction.
The 'One-Eyed GIANT' is a comedic video series that engages an ever-increasing younger audience through social media.
Dropping every Monday night after an AFL win, the GIANTS wanted to provide a new 'footy ritual' that was more than just a few highlights or analyst commentary.
From the perspective of a one-eyed fanatic, the videos are full of memes, movie quotes and recurring GIANTS in-jokes. The series splices pop culture with the fandom of the AFL in a fresh way providing an entry point for new fans in an emerging AFL heartland.
“This award is a great recognition of the outstanding work done by the GIANTS’ media and communications department,” GIANTS Chief Executive David Matthews said.
"At the GIANTS we pride ourselves on being a club like no other and the One-Eyed GIANT series is a perfect example of the innovative and engaging content the club creates to build the brand of the GIANTS.
"I'd like to recognise our former Head of Media and Communications, Leigh Meyrick, for the evolution of this idea, along Head of Media, Communications and Content, Alison Zell, writer Alex Williams and former Digital Media Manager Craig Abercrombie and now Video Producer Will Helm who lead the production of the content."
This is the second AFMA award the GIANTS have won, after claiming the award for Best AFLW Coverage by a club in 2019.
