The orange and charcoal jumper has proudly been leading the way, representing NSW and the ACT in the AFLW competition since 2017.
As an inaugural team in the women’s competition, it is a jumper that represents the more than just those wear it today but also the pioneers of our game.
For those that have worn it in the past and those who wait to wear it in the future – the moments wearing it are always cherished.
It’s a jumper that represents so much more than those that wear it on the field or those within the walls of the club.
It represents NSW and ACT. It represents players past and present – and the journeys and sacrifices made along the way.
With the AFLW squad set to begin their 2022 campaign next Sunday, the prospect of multiple debutants is on the cards.
Hear from new coach Cam Bernasconi on the potential debutants for season seven.
Madison Brazendale
Age: 19
Jumper Number: 23
Position: Wing
Drafted from: Tasmanian Devils/Launceston Football Club
Draft year: 2022
Coach says: “Madi has had a terrific pre-season. Her running capability is elite. Our GPS reporting shows that not only does she have an incredible tank, she has the ability to put it into playing and training and that is super impressive. If she gets the opportunity to play this year, I definitely think she will value add.”
Tess Cattle
Age: 18
Jumper Number: 40
Position: Small defender
Drafted from: Ainslie Football Club/GIANTS Academy
Draft year: 2022
Coach says: “Tess’ strength is that she’s played a lot of senior footy against women in Canberra, so she’s been able to adapt to the level pretty fast. Her ability to win the contest against bigger bodies is something she's used to.”
Fleur Davies
Age: 18
Jumper Number: 20
Position: Ruck
Drafted from: Southport AFC/Gold Coast Suns Academy
Draft year: 2022
Coach says: “Fleur is an extremely likeable character within the group, and she’s fitted in seamlessly both on and off the field. Her ability to learn and get better quickly and apply her ruck craft has been a real strength of hers. She’s a player that is already so important to us at just 18-years-old.”
Meghan Gaffney
Age: 19
Jumper Number: 22
Position: Forward
Drafted from: Tasmanian Devils/Ulverstone Football Club
Draft year: 2022
Coach says: “Meghan has adapted into the group so well. Her ability to use her strength of speed to influence training has been a real plus for us. Her ability to add pressure as a small forward, but also to break lines, has been really exciting.”
Zarlie Goldsworthy
Age: 17
Jumper Number: 7
Position: Midfielder/forward
Drafted from: Murray Bushrangers/GIANTS Academy
Draft year: 2022
Coach says: “Zarlie has come in as if she has played 100 games already. She’s ready to go, super competitive, very good one-on-one and has the ability to find the goals. She’s a player that is already at the level, which is scary to see what she could become.”
Zara Hamilton
Age: 17
Jumper Number: 35
Position: Midfield/wing/half-back
Drafted from: Murray Bushrangers/GIANTS Academy
Draft year: 2022
Coach says: “Zara has had a big start to the season while managing her study and training commitments and travelling to and from Wagga. When she’s been here, she’s been great. Her self-awareness and growth mindset are her strengths, so she’s the type of player that will seriously develop this year.”
Cambridge McCormick
Age: 23
Jumper Number: 25
Position: Ruck
Drafted from: Eastlake Demons
Draft year: 2022
Coach says: “Cambridge has come in and just adapted to the program so seamlessly. Her ruck craft is really good for a player that hasn’t tested her skill at the elite level yet, but she’s certainly tracking really well and if she gets her chance I think she will be really good for us.”
