James Peatling, Josh Fahey and Cameron Fleeton have put pen to paper on new contract extensions with the GIANTS.   

A Western Sydney local from the Pennant Hills Demons, Peatling was the club’s first-ever mid-season rookie draft pick in 2021 and has committed to staying in Sydney for a further two years.

The now 21-year-old made his AFL debut just weeks later and has played 11 games at the elite level, including kicking nine goals in three games this season under Mark McVeigh.

Second-year defender Cameron Fleeton has also added a year to his contract, taking him through to the end of 2023.

Yet to make his debut, Fleeton has been a consistent performer in the VFL since being selected with pick 58 in the 2020 NAB AFL Draft.

Also signing a two-year extension is Canberra and GIANTS Academy product, Josh Fahey.

The Academy graduate was selected at pick 42 in last year’s NAB AFL Draft and made an impressive start in the VFL earlier this season before suffering a shoulder injury in round 11 that has seen him sidelined for the remainder of 2022.

GIANTS General Manager of Football, Jason McCartney, said:

“We’re pleased to extend the contracts of James, Josh and Cam.  

“James is a great story of perseverance after being involved in our Academy and VFL program before being drafted as a mature-age player.

“We’ve seen his impressive impact since switching forward and are looking forward to how his game develops over the coming years.

“Cam is also showing some great signs at VFL level and has been one of our most consistent players at that level over the past 18 months.

“He’s keen to work hard and improve his game and is nearing his AFL debut, which is really exciting to see.

“Josh showed a lot of promise earlier in the season and has continued to show a lot of development across all areas of his game. 

“It’s disappointing we weren’t able to see the full potential of what he can do this season, but he’ll be in a really good spot to attack next pre-season and we look forward to seeing him back out on the park soon.”

The GIANTS take on the Brisbane Lions this Saturday afternoon at Manuka Oval at 1:45pm.
