The GIANTS are a proud community partner of Ladder and have supported the Ladder Step Up Sydney program since it commenced.

GIANTS players have had a significant involvement with Ladder Step Up Sydney, working with young people. The club and players have checked in on them during the hardships of COVID-19 lockdowns, provided meals through the GIANT Hand initiative and are continuing to provide mentorship and encouragement.

More recently, GIANTS defender Phil Davis shared his personal story with program participants about his own struggles with injury and mental health, and provided advice on how to stay emotionally, mentally, and physically strong during Men’s Health Week.

Ladder has had proven success in working with some of the most complex young people, in the most marginalised and socially disadvantaged communities in Australia.

Approximately 80% of young people Ladder support have complex needs, including mental health issues, and behavioural and social challenges.

The Ladder Step Up Sydney program supports young people (15-20 years) who have had an out-of-home care experience to strengthen their outcomes across fundamental domains: independent living skills, self-efficacy, community connections, health and wellbeing and education, training, and employment.

The program is delivered over an eight-week period, with follow up support offered to program participants over the following 26 weeks.

Since 2017, over 213 young people in out-of-home care have successfully graduated the Ladder program and been supported to increase their independence and leaving care planning.
