Collingwood President Eddie McGuire has described Greater Western Sydney GIANTS’ young gun Jeremy Cameron as a ‘sporting prodigy’ on his EMT program on Fox Footy.
McGuire interviewed this year’s NAB AFL Rising Star runner up alongside teammate Israel Folau and asked him about his whirlwind move from the small town of Dartmoor in Victoria to Western Sydney.
“It was something that happened really quickly,” Cameron said. "I started off playing golf and I always loved my golf.
"The time came when my mates just wanted me to come over and kick the footy with them at the oval which was only 50 meters from my house. Then I started playing at Dartmoor Football Club.
“I played TAC Cup for one year then suddenly I was headed to Western Sydney. It was a big step but one that I was willing to take and I’ve loved every minute of it.”
Cameron said that he has enjoyed his first year in the AFL system and is thrilled to have signed a contract extension with the GIANTS until the end of 2015. He kicked 29 goals from 16 games in his debut season and finished third in the Kevin Sheedy Medal.
“It was a tough year with a lot of firsts. We took a lot of little wins out of the year whether that was winning quarters or just playing some good football against quality opposition.
“I’ve recently signed a new contract and am very happy to be committed to the club,” Cameron said.
