Young GIANTS Step Up
Thirteen players from the Slater & Gordon GIANTS Academy have been selected in the NSW/ACT Rams squad for the upcoming NAB Under-18 Championships.
Over the next month, the Rams will be coached by former Sydney Swans player Jason Saddington and take on South Australia, Vic Metro, Northern Territory, Queensland and Tasmania.
Slater & Gordon GIANTS Academy Manager Lachlan Buszard says the selection of 13 players from the GIANTS zone was a great reward for the work the players have put in.
“It’s great to see these players get selected after training and playing so well throughout the early part of the year,” said Buszard.
“The month long carnival will provide a great opportunity for these players to test themselves on a national stage against the best young players in Australia.
“It is also a credit to the many Slater & Gordon GIANTS Academy staff throughout our zone who give their time to provide quality environments for these players to develop.
“Twelve months ago we saw Zac Williams from Narrandera playing for the Rams and now he’s playing AFL for the GIANTS so this is an important step for these players as they aim to reach the AFL,” said Buszard.
The 13 players from the Slater & Gordon GIANTS Academy include two players from Western Sydney, seven from Southern NSW and four from Canberra and the South Coast.
The first match of the Championships is on Saturday at Blacktown International Sportspark with the Rams hosting South Australia at midday.
