Growing up in Narrandera in southern NSW, Matthew Flynn was a member of the GIANTS Academy since the age of 12. Drafted as a developing ruckman, he was on the cusp of debuting in 2019 when he tore his ACL in a NEAFL match. 1944 days after being drafted Flynn made his AFL debut against St Kilda at GIANTS Stadium in 2021. Flynn took his game to the next level in 2022 and while some of his season was hampered by injury, he showed the assets to match it with the best ruckmen in the competition throughout much of the season.
