Taken with the GIANTS’ second pick in the 2021 AFL Draft, Aleer is a high-marking and extremely athletic tall defender full of promise. Highlighting his supreme athleticism, Aleer broke the all-time draft combine record for the running vertical jump with a leap of 107cm at the South Australian Draft Combine. Born in Kenya to Sudanese parents, Aleer was drafted as a key defender full of x-factor out of the SANFL and made his debut in 2022 where he played four games. While finding it difficult to retain his spot in the GIANTS’ brilliant backline, Aleer returned to the side in round six, 2024 and put in some starring performances, particularly against Geelong in round 11 where he took two game-saving marks in the dying minutes to put the AFL world on notice of his talents. Aleer added a total of eight games to his AFL tally in 2024 as he looks to continue to cement his spot in one of the league’s best backlines.
