Superstar forward Toby Greene will miss Friday night’s clash with the Tigers with his one-match ban upheld.
Greene was handed a two-match suspension following a collision with Geelong star Patrick Dangerfield on Friday night.
Based on the available evidence, the incident was assessed as Careless Conduct, High Impact, High Contact.
The GIANTS took the charge to the AFL Tribunal on Tuesday night, who assessed the incident as Careless Conduct, Medium Impact, High Contact, resulting in a one-match sanction.
During Thursday afternoon’s hearing, the Appeals Board declined to overturn the charge with Greene to miss the match against Richmond.
GIANTS General Manager of Football Jason McCartney said:
“We are disappointed with the outcome today.
“We felt there was a clear case that Toby’s action wasn’t careless based on the split second nature of the incident. It was a football action and in our view high contact resulted from his opponent slipping. Thankfully there was minimal impact according to the medical report.
“On that basis we wanted to take every opportunity that the AFL provides to test the assessment of the MRO – at both the Tribunal and the Appeals Board. It’s the responsible course to take.
“We move on and look forward to a huge game against the Tigers on Friday night.”
The GIANTS take on Richmond on Friday at 7:50pm at Marvel Stadium.
