GIANTS defender Elle Bennetts will return home to join the Western Bulldogs for the 2022 AFLW season after a trade was completed on Monday.
The 31-year-old has made the difficult decision to return to her home state following 30 games and four seasons at the GIANTS.
A former netballer, Bennetts has made her name off half-back in the AFLW and was named in the All Australian squad in 2020.
The GIANTS receive pick 28 in the upcoming draft from the Bulldogs.
GIANTS Head of Women’s Football Briana Harvey wished Bennetts well.
“We’re obviously disappointed to lose Elle after four great seasons at the club,” Harvey said.
“We identified Elle as a cross-coder four years ago and brought her up to Sydney as a successful netballer and helped her become a very successful footballer.
“While disappointed, we understand Elle’s desire to return to Victoria be closer to her family and friends.
“After a number of years living interstate, the part-time nature of the competition meant returning to Victoria was a better option for Elle personally and professionally.
“We wish Elle well in the future.”
The AFLW trade period runs until 2pm on Wednesday with the re-signing period closing at 2pm on Wednesday, June 16.
