Experienced defenders Nick Haynes and Sam Reid will return for the GIANTS’ clash with the West Coast Eagles at GIANTS Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The duo return to the team along with Jeremy Finlayson - who has served his one-match suspension - with Shane Mumford named on an extended interchange bench alongside Zach Sproule and Tanner Bruhn.
The GIANTS have named three ruckman in the squad with veteran Mumford joining young duo Matt Flynn and Kieren Briggs - who played together against the Tigers last week.
An All Australian last season, Haynes was injured early in the GIANTS’ loss to the Western Bulldogs in round six, missing the past three weeks with a hamstring injury.
Reid has also battled a minor hamstring strain he picked up in the round five win over the Swans. The veteran missed round six before re-injuring it again in round seven and missing the past two matches.
Confirmed out of the side are Toby Greene (shoulder) and Harry Perryman (hamstring) who were both injured last round.
As confirmed by coach Leon Cameron on Thursday, Josh Kelly will captain the side in the absence of Stephen Coniglio and following Greene’s injury last week.
With the AFL reverting to the usual team selection process from round 10, clubs playing on Sunday are required to name a squad of 26 on Thursday night before the final 22 is named at 5pm on Friday.
The GIANTS will celebrate a Big Big Decade when they face the West Coast Eagles at home on Sunday afternoon.
In season 2021 the GIANTS are celebrating their 10th season in the AFL with Sunday’s game to fall near the anniversary of the first-ever game at GIANTS Stadium - against Essendon on May 26, 2012.
