The GIANTS will head to Marvel Stadium on Saturday night with five changes to their team that defeated the Bombers last weekend.
As announced on Thursday evening, local Western Sydney ruckman Kieren Briggs will make his AFL debut against Richmond.
He’ll be joined in the ruck by fellow young ruck Matt Flynn, who comes back in for his fifth game.
Also coming into the side is experienced defender Matt Buntine and tall forwards Jake Riccardi and Jesse Hogan.
Out of the side are Lachlan Keeffe (injured), Jeremy Finlayson (suspension), Shane Mumford (managed), Tanner Bruhn and Zach Sproule (omitted).
GIANTS coach Leon Cameron said:
“It’s a huge task for our young team to take on the Tigers, but one we’re really looking forward to.
“Briggsy is a great story, a kid from Western Sydney who started playing AFL as a fill-in for a mate’s team and has now progressed through our Academy to be playing at Marvel Stadium on Saturday night.
“He’ll be joined by Flynn in the side and we’re looking forward to their combination, they’ve played a lot of footy together at the lower levels.
“Jesse will come back in after we pulled him out last week as a precaution. He’s had a good week on the training track and we’re looking forward to having him back in the side.
“Jake will also come back in, after a few games in the AFL side earlier this season he went back to VFL level and worked on some things and we’ve been pleased with how he’s progressed.
“It’s a big challenge for our young team but we can’t wait to get out there on Saturday night.”
The GIANTS take on the Tigers at Marvel Stadium on Saturday at 7:25pm while the two clubs’ VFL teams will face off a the Swinburne Centre at 2:35pm earlier in the day.
