For GIANTS players Curtly Hampton, Shaun Edwards and Gerald Ugle, the 2013 Indigenous All Star game was more than just a game of football.

It was a chance to represent Indigenous Australia and meet and play with some of their childhood heroes.

Speaking to GIANTS TV, Hampton said:  "Just be able to sit down with the likes of Adam Goodes, Buddy Franklin and Cyril Rioli and having a talk about footy, life outside of footy, that sort of stuff was really good."

Edwards was also slightly star struck to be in such elite company. "It was good to hang out with all my childhood heroes like Aaron Davey, Alwyn Davey and Nathan Lovett-Murray. It was great to get to know those blokes." Edwards said.

For Hampton in particular, the game played at Traeger Park in Alice Springs was also a chance to get back to where he grew up.

"All the family were happy to see me and watch me play once again. I think half the crowd there was related to me and they had a good time." Hampton said.

The Indigenous All Stars team ran out convincing winners in the match against Richmond by 50 points. Gerald Ugle kicked a goal for the All Stars whilst Hampton and Edwards saw plenty of match time and contributed to the win.

Now focus shifts back to the start of the GIANTS campaign for 2013 and all three players are  excited that the season is nearly here.

Hampton feels he is much stronger and fitter this year and is ready to build on a strong back half of 2012.

"Hopefully I can keep improving and just get my spot in the side and do what I need to do the help the team get a few more wins this year." Hampton said.

The GIANTS pay their first NAB Cup game at Blacktown International Sports Park on February 24 against the Sydney Swans and Carlton.
