After a busy trade and draft period completed, the GIANTS’ list for 2017 has been finalised and the new playing numbers have been revealed.
None of the 2016 playing list have changed numbers while the 10 new faces at the club have all found new numbers.
After wearing number 3 during his 243 game career at Richmond, star recruit Brett Deledio has made himself at home in the number 7 locker vacated by Rhys Palmer.
When speaking to the media following training on Wednesday, Deledio said he was happy to stay in the single digits.
"I said to Wayne (Campbell) that I wanted the lowest one possible, I don’t like big, heavy numbers. I’m rapt to be in it and just happy to be in a GIANTS jumper to be honest,” said Deledio.
Number two draft pick Tim Taranto will take over number 14, the number he wore playing school football and when he was a star on the basketball court in previous years. 14 has previously belonged to Tommy Bugg and Jarrod Pickett.
Will Setterfield, who joined the GIANTS with pick five, will take over Jack Steele's number 11 jumper. This number has also previously been worn by Chad Cornes, Taylor Adams and Jed Lamb.
Harry Perryman grew up supporting Collingwood so was thrilled when the number 36 jumper, made famous by Dane Swan, was available for him to make his own at the GIANTS.
The Collingullie product takes over the jumper from James Stewart who’s moved to Essendon, and was worn by Jack Hombsch in 2012.
Broken Hill’s Isaac Cumming was quick to jump at the opportunity to wear jumper number 13, made famous by fellow Silver City product and captain of the Adelaide Crows, Taylor Walker. The number 13 has been through plenty of owners, including Sam Darley, Tom Boyd and Paul Ahern.
Lachie Tiziani will wear number 33 after being selected by the club with pick 54. The jumper has previously been worn by Will Hoskin-Elliott for the last five seasons.
With Joel Patfull retiring, Matt de Boer will take over number 24. He previously wore number 9 at Fremantle.
His good mate from the Dockers, Tendai Mzungu, will be in the next locker to him, pulling on 25 for the GIANTS after wearing 13 at Fremantle. 25 was previously worn by Anthony Miles and Cam McCarthy.
Rookie selection Zach Sproule has been handed jumper number 28 which has only been worn in the AFL for the GIANTS by Liam Sumner and has been vacated by Jake Barrett’s move to Brisbane.
Category B rookie Jake Stein will wear number 42 in his first season on an AFL list having switched over from a successful career as a decathlete. 42 has previously been worn by Mark Whiley and Pat McKenna.
The GIANTS' list of 38 senior players and six rookies (including Patfull for TPP purposes) has now been finalised, following the AFL's final list lodgement deadline on Wednesday.
